Lost at Sea on the Brink of World War II

This is an interesting article about a young couple setting off by freighter to South Africa before America entered WW II. The story would probably be typical except for the part it played in affecting World War II.

An awesome and little known story. When I was stationed at Ft Bragg several of the members of my church who grew up during the war used  to talk about how they used to sit near the shore at Wilmington during the war and could see the lights from the explosions of U-boats attacking shipping off our coast.
