The official British casualty return for the battle, lists a total of 485 casualties (148 killed, 326 wounded, and 46 missing). The 1st Regiment of foot recorded 63 dead, 135 wounded, and 30 missing. The highest of the 3 regular British regiments at the battle, and was a loss of nearly half their numbers that were taken into the action that day.
